Movie Talk

Happy Sunday! Sorry I couldn't blog yesterday. Jammed work weekend. After working eight hours at the library. I zipped to Trump Casino to emcee a sweepstakes until midnight. I'm back in today at 11am to emcee another sweepstakes. I managed to do some multi-tasking, completing a cover spec sheet for my next western and writing the back blurb, in addition to reading the last of the books I'm judging for the RITA.

I'm fried.

I'm hoping to treat myself to two movies this coming week. I haven't been to the theater in at least two months. What have you seen lately? Is there a movie you'd highly reccommend? Looking forward to your suggestions!

Off to work...

huge congrats on finishing, Beth! I never doubted you. :-)

Can't really recommend a movie, since we get them after you do! But you are going to take time to sleep, eat, rest and get some fresh air and exercise, aren't you?

I haven't been to the movies since you and I saw Syriana and Narnia over the Christmas holidays. I live by Netflix. Have fun, B!

Well, the January-Febuary movies that are released are usually trash (it's the time of the year that production company's use to get rid of their bad films) but there are some highlights. I heard the feel-good film "Last Holiday" is excellent and I want to reccomend to you, Beth, as both a lover of books and a lover of romance the last film I saw: Memoirs Of A Geisha. If you've read the book, the translation from book-to-film is flawless. :)

Last thing I saw was Narnia too! Would love to get to the movies more. Let us know what you see and how it is!

I haven't been to the movies in ages! I think the last one I saw on the big screen was "Herbie Fully Loaded". My girls loved it. I thought it was cute. The best part was all the old footage at the beginning, from the Herbie movies that were out when I was a kid.
The most recent DVD's I've seen were "Stelth" ~not bad; "Serenity" ~Awesome; "The Longest Yard" with Adam Sandler ~sokay

"Millions" is out on DVD now. I love this movie. Funny. Touching. Cool direction and music. From the director of Trainspotting, but is PG, not even PG-13, so it's a good kids' movie as well.

Haven't been to the theater in forever... but if you want to rent a few good movies (and are in for a little fun and uselessness) try Wedding Crashers and/or 40-year-old Virgin. They had me laughing... and with all that stress, that might be a good thing. :-)

Great job on the book--and my God--are you sure you aren't falling over dead? All that work?!?

Anna... you had to lump exercise in there? Ick! heh-heh.

Taylor, thank you for the reccomendations. Noted!

Mary, that was the last time I was at the movies too. With you! Syriana was amazing. Complicated and totally engrossing. Narnia... magical! Cynis, I take it Narnia got a thumbs up from you too?

FeyRhi, as you know because I blogged about, Serenity was one of my favorite finds this year. Now own that on DVD. I'll have to look into Stealth. Another fave of mine this year was The Constant Gardner. EXCELLENT!

Jamie, I recently saw "Millions". I agree with everything you said. I thought it was unbelievably touching. Excellent film for adults as well as children. Powerful messages. The young boy was fabulous.

Speaking of fabulous young boy actors, the other night I saw "Dear Frankie." In fact, I'll be blogging about that powerful movie tomorrow!

Hey Bethany! You're not the first person who's told me to check out The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Quite a few people, plus reviewers, have said it really surprised them. The previews look, well, silly, but I understand that it is surprisingly touching and genuinely funny. I'm going to have to check it out.

Regarding your question, yes, I am falling over dead. I got home at 6:30 tonight. Have an interview I still need to finish and some promo things due, but I just couldn't do it. Brain. Dead. Instead, I treated myself to a movie. I have an extensive DVD and video collection. I chose a romantic comedy that makes me laugh and cry everytime. 'While You Were Sleeping' starring Sandra Bullock. I think it's the perfectly written contemporary romance. Subtle, poingant writing and acting.

Now... I'm going to crash.

Congrats on finishing the book Beth! I can't beluieve that you managed to do your RITA reading during this time period too! (I'm on my last book) And then you worked all weekend! You are definitely do for some R&R. And yes...some shopping. The last movie I saw was before Xmas, The Family Stone, with my daughter. Good but I thought it would be all comedy and it was more drama with funny parts. I'd rent a few funny movies (or buy them) and watch in my pJs with a big bowl of popcorn if I were you!

The last film I saw was Narnia. I want to go to the movies too, but haven't decided what to see. Brokenback Mountain intrigues me.

I read Narnia, and though the movie couldn't possibly touch everything, I was able to fill it in from having read. I really liked the movie and its visuals.

I forgot that I had bought Serenity at the urging of your blog. I have to watch it! The question is, do I knew where I put it?

Oh, and While You Were Sleeping is the best!
